Joseph Browne Spring School of Traditional Music - Bursaries
      The Joseph Browne Spring School of Traditional Music is offering a number of bursaries to enable young musicians from counties Galway and Clare, as well as participants in the second Joseph Browne Spring of Traditional music, to attend other traditional music schools. Bursaries to attend the Meitheal Residential Summer School in July 2008 and the Joseph Browne Spring School of Traditional Music in February 2009 are on offer.

The following conditions apply:

Meitheal Residential Summer School 2008
Applicants are invited to submit a written presentation entitled

'A Traditional Musician I Admire'
&
A recording of the music of the applicant.

  1. The presentation should include:
    a biographical study of the chosen musician which may feature:
    childhood experiences,
    instruments played,
    musical influences,
    bands and groups they play with,
    the impact of music on their lives,
    list of their recordings,
    photographs,
    illustrations
    other items of interest and any other relevant information.
    (The presentation must contain a minimum of 800 words and a maximum of 1200 words)
  2. Applicants for the Meitheal bursary must submit a recording of their own performance on tape or CD.
  3. Applicants must be aged 13 or over.


Joseph Browne Spring School of Traditional Music Feb. 2009

  1. Bursaries are available to attend the 2009 Joseph Browne Spring School of Traditional Music (February 19th-22nd). Applicants are invited to submit a presentation entitled 'A Traditional Musician I Admire' as above.
  2. Presentation as for Meitheal bursary ( A recording is not required.)
  3. Judging will take place under 3 age categories; 7 - 10yrs.     11- 14yrs     15 - 19yrs.
